Girl Power! Sunday 31 January 2010 - 11:11:40 Girl Power! Girls flex brain muscles at 4th Annual Okoboji Winter Games Chess Tournament Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center hosted our 4th annual event which had 44 students match wits on the 64-squared battlefied. Over half (28) travelled from South Dakota and six from Minnesota. The top prize, 1st place in the High School rated section, went to Malavika Nair, a 5th grade student from Souix Falls. SHE had a perfect score of 5.0. Eddie Yermolinsky, 2nd with 4.0, and Evan David, 3rd with 3.5, made it an all Sioux Falls top-three finish. Sibley Halloween Results Saturday 28 November 2009 - 18:53:22 The Sibley Halloween Chess Tournament held on October 31, 2009, had 29 participants from three states. The largest visiting contingent came from Garretson, SD with seven; two came from Bigelow, MN (one attends school in Worthington and the other in Sibley); and the remaining 21 entries hail from Sibley. Isaac Wass, the Trojan Junior, won clear first in the scholastic rated section with a perfect score of 3.0. Nathaniel Boland, Jacob Liester and Zachary Boland finished 2nd - 4th respectively. In the K-12 unrated division, Thomas Boland garnered 1st place with a perfect score of 4.0 to win the the High School section. Austin Rhodes scored 3.0 points to win second while Leticia Flores also scored 3.0 to finish 3rd. Read the rest... SW/WC Regional Chess Tournment Wednesday 28 October 2009 - 12:17:41 SW/WC Service Cooperative Regional Chess Tournament February 6, 2010 1420 East College Drive Marshall, MN 56258 Program: The Regional Chess Tournament is open to students in grades K-12 who have had prior chess playing experience. This event is an opportunity to improve analytical thinking skills while having fun competing with students from other districts. Numerous studies indicate that children who play chess regularly see improvements in reading and math scores. Chess teaches critical thinking and problem solving. There will be rated and non-rated sections divided by grade level. Students will be guaranteed at least four match games. Medals and certificates will be awarded. Halloween Chess Tournament Tuesday 13 October 2009 - 06:57:36 Sibley holds its first chess tournament of the scholastic year on Halloween day. It is a three section (K-6, K-12 and Open Quads) event for youth and adults; all unrated sections. The tournament will be held at Ben Franklin Elementary, Sibley, Iowa. Come dressed in your halloween costume! For complete details click on Halloween Chess Tournament. 2009 Split Rock Scholastic Chess Tournament Thursday 24 September 2009 - 23:33:16 The Split Rock Scholastic, organized by Robert Boland and directed by GM Alex Yermolinsky, was a success with 75 participants! You may read the tournament report at Split Rock and view the crosstable results at USCF. Congratulations to all who played, organized or otherwise supported this excellent event! The Utterly Fantastic SPLIT ROCK SCHOLASTIC! Chess Tournament, Saturday, October 10, 2009 Garretson School, 505 2nd Street, Garretson, SD USCF rated tournament with four sections; Primary (K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8) and High School (K-12). (Rounds begin after opening announcements at 8:45 am.) No one will be eliminated. Students should keep score on provided score sheets. Students in the Primary, Elementary and Middle School sections will play five matches and the High School section will play four. Rounds for the K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections: 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm. Time control for these matches is G/40 (each player has 40 minutes for all their moves). Rounds for the K-12 section: 9:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm with a time control of G/60 (each player has 60 minutes for all their moves). For directions fo Garretson School click on Map. 2009 Jackson Open Results Sunday 23 August 2009 - 12:50:28 The 2009 Jackson Open chess tournament is in the books having had 18 participants. Chess players travelled from as far as the metropolitan area of Minnesota to the north and Sioux City to the south. Fourteen played in the rated section and four in the scholastic. William Dobbs had the only perfect score in the Open to win the first place prize of $250. Each of his opponents had winning chances but Will's tenacity pulled off four tough wins. Read the rest... |
